I'm a big believer that there are very real issues that we need to focus on in this campaign. Both sides are prone to taking a few words out of context and then misinterpreting the intent of the speaker for political benefit.
A careful listen to Sarah Palin's interview on CNBC reveals that she was asking what the job was because she was not interested in being Vice President if it was not going to be a serious position with real influence.
While she certainly appears to disagree with me on pretty much all issues, she certainly seems to be a well spoken, smart woman whom we would be foolish to laugh at or ignore?
John McCain is also disagrees with me on pretty much everything, but he certainly does not want to be still fighting in Iraq in 100 years. Sarah Palin knows perfectly well what the VP does, but doesn't want to spend 4 years attending funerals and ribbon cutting ceremonies. Don't misunderestimate her. She looks like a pretty tough cookie who has accomplished a lot in just a few years!
We have a real election .... with two very different worldviews to choose from. I certainly have my opinion and will work hard to promote that view, but I will not demonize those with different views.
The world will go on whether the Republicans or the Democrats prevail this time. It will go on better if we all listen to each other instead of going to work on our rebuttal after the first seven words.

Sankofa for Obama
I think it must be safe to show this now.... We entered the above piece in a MoveOn.org art for Obama contest. I don't think we won. The 5 winners get shown at the convention.... the next 30 get sold on Ebay to raise $. I think we will sell this ourselves for $300 - all proceeds to the general election Obama/??? campaign. We will make a maximum of 7 pieces, signed and numbered. This is #1.
Sankofa is an Adinkra symbol from West Africa. Adinkra symbols are mainly printed by hand on cloth, but also decorate homes, and public spaces. The various Adinkra symbols are visual expressions of the history, religious beliefs, ethics, politics, and aesthetics of the Akan people of Ghana. The Sankofa is a bird - going forward, but looking backward, with an egg - its future - in its mouth. Sankofa is transliterated in the Akan language as "se wo were fi na wosan kofa a yenki." Literally translated, it means "it is not taboo to go back and fetch what you forgot.” Let us not forget to learn from our past as we proceed toward our future.
We feel Obama/???? embodies the true meaning of the Sankofa symbol.

A new figure in the "Blessed be the Ties" series
I won't post all of these, I promise. But I am still excited by them, and by the large collection of really cool ties I've already accumulated! I think I have a design in my head for a smaller figure made from the small end of the tie..... maybe a Mother/Daughter series. I'm thinking about a guy too! If you really need to see more of these - keep checking back here. This one is temporarily available. Mention this blog post for a 10% discount.

Happy Birthday Maeve - even if Maya did get more attention!
Extreme left - clockwise - Anne, Chris, Maeve, Wyatt, Don, Peg, Mel, Casey, Deanna, Maya, Lisa, Cheryl, Steve, Jennifer. A wonderful time was had by all! I'm still amazed at all the wonderful folks who comprise my family ---- and I even like all of them! My direct relatives are all very special, and they have all chosen really great folks to hang out with (or be related to)!!!!! A great big thank you to all of them, and to whatever powers are in charge of such things!

Hill Reunion
Off to the Hill Family Reunion --- I'm not sure of the origins of this reunion, but we are all descendants of Sarah Hill Olney - wife of Henry Cadmus Olney, and my great great grandmother. Actually the reunion is pretty much decendants of two of her 11 kids -- Bart and Omar. Another generation in our our line will be there today - Maeve and Wyatt will be meeting a bunch of the relatives!
I was hoping for more when I went to my images of Sarah's diary from 1885 to see what went on today. Raising 11 kids limited Sarah's diary entry time I'm sure. A couple of the kids seem to have used the pages for August 8 & 9, 1885 to practice their signatures! Quite a few pages of her diary suffered this fate. Probably not much spare paper around the house in those days.

Evolution
Here is a 2 year old picture - These ladies were actually a revised version of some of our older yet Black & Tan figures. Their latest version - as "Blessed be the ties" - has debuted at the show this weekend, and all three of them sold. Guess I'll have to go home and make more?

Is bigger always better?
Just exactly how can the future be bigger? I can sort of understand a longer future, and I think I'm all for it. Bigger? I'm not convinced!
Speaking of the future ---- I'm attempting to actually publish this in the future - 12:01 pm tomorrow if this works.... on the other hand if you are reading this, it is not the future for you? I'll be clicking on the publish button at 8:34 PM yesterday?????? This is just plain weird!
