Old Zwiggle

Friend Rich Shannon had this guy sitting around his photo studio. I made him (them) her? about 30 years ago. We made thousands and thousands of the smaller Zwiggles. Named Zwiggles for the curly wiggly bandsaw line I followed to create them. Mostly made up in my mind as I stood at the bandsaw cutting them. They almost always had smiles - sometimes up to 3 or 4 per Zwiggle. This is a rare case of a frowning Zwiggle. Also a rare case of one this big. I only made about a half dozen of them in this scale - about 3" thick by about 10 to 12 inches long?

Shopify

I'll try not to get too commercial here, but it is our Louise's Daughter blog!  Check out the new e-commerce site for our work.  It is pretty easy to set-up and put items on there, so hopefully we'll sell enough to cover the fees?
Feedback appreciated.  Next step is to put a special item on that will give customers a really good deal so we can see how the customer check-out goes?

Windtamer Turbines

Click pictures to Embiggen!

A while back I got a link to information about these new "home" wind turbines from my old friend and teacher Richard Hunt.  The other day, while on our way home from the Washington DC "no sales" trip, we stopped to take pictures of this great new system.... just north of Hemlock, NY.   They are bigger than I had imagined, but due to new technology, can generate enough electricity for home or small business use with a lot shorter tower, and a lot less wind than you might think.  I suspect this is the largest of the three models available.  WindTamer Turbines is located right here in the Rochester area, and this looks like a pretty cool green solution.  Click here for their web site with a video that explains how it works.

Well, we're back home.  Above is a picture of our booth at The Kennedy Center on Sunday afternoon.  We had modest sales because well over half of the audience could not make it through the snowed in streets of the Washington DC area.  We had a lovely drive home on Monday between the storms.  Here in Rochester, we just have a nice pleasant dusting of snow that a nice stiff broom removes with ease!

Our hearts go out to the folks doing the Buyer's Market of American Crafts show this weekend.  This is our first year of not doing this show, but many of our friends are there with high hopes, and the airport closed!  Jewelry preview tonight, and the show opens tomorrow.  Hopefully most of the gallery and store owners will make it in sometime over the weekend!  The following banner appears over the opening page of the show web site.....

The Buyers Market of American Craft WILL open as scheduled on Friday, February 12. The Jewelry Preview will take place on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.

Working on a new e-commerce web site - click here to check it out and give us feedback.... probably best to not actually place an order yet?

Snowed In ! ! ! ! ! ! !

The best laid plans!  About 1/2 way through set-up of our booth for our trunk show at the Kennedy Center today, we were informed that due to a massive snow storm on the way, tonight's Alvin Ailey Dance performance, and the two performances tomorrow were canceled!  Thus in one fell swoop, three quarters of our sales for the weekend were wiped out.  Sunday matinee might  go on if the streets are cleared by then! Predictions are for 20 to 30 inches of snow in an area of the world where this amount of snow is very unusual, with very few snowplows, salt trucks, etc. compared to Rochester, where this would mean extra shoveling, but not an absolute shut down the city emergency!  Our federal government all went home at noon today!  I'm still putting a "Thank You" tag on this posting because we will be snowed in for about 48 hours with Anna and Gregg and Molly!  I'll take another picture in the morning and see how far up the trunk of that little tree the snow comes!
