A Grape Plume Moth on the back of our van.

Click for a larger view.
An amazingly beautiful Grape Plume Moth we found just resting a bit on the back door of our van last weekend. The caterpillar stage eats grape leaves, but according to an agricultural web site --- "Plume moth larvae rarely occur in large enough numbers in commercial vineyards to justify control measures." Picture of the larval stage below -- borrowed from The Ohio State Entomology Department page titled "Insect and Mite Pests of Grapes in Ohio and the Midwest"
